CEH Network Discussion Notes
With steps put in to incorporate the second Cisco 877 router, an existing server running "Analog Proxy" has been identified. Close examination of this application and the network topology has revealed a double NAT-layer structure slowing users down to accessing the Internet.
This double-translation work (by both the Compact Proliant 1600 and Prolink Home-grade ADSL modem)can present a huge bottleneck in speed of access in the HQ site. We strongly recommend removal of the Compaq Proliant 1600 server with immediate effect while existing users are redirected to a second Analog Proxy box on level 2 temporarily.
Next, the second Cisco 877 has been partially configured to access the internet today but has yet to be incorporated back into the network for the fact it will have to be configured to be part of the network for usability, bearing an IP of 192.168.1.200. The first Cisco 877 today bares an IP fo 192.168.1.180. It is a matter of time that the current Analog Proxy server be removed to be replaced by a load balancer, having direct connection to both Cisco 877 routers at level 3.
In addition, any DHCP functions in any Microsoft Windows 2000/3 servers should be turned off immediately, before the Cisco 877 resumed this responsibility. What HQ currently have in terms of ADSL connectivity includes
- 1.5 Mbps ADSL Dynamic Plan
- 2 Mbps ADSL Static Plan with 16 Static IPs (please provide information on ALL static IP information)
- 256kbps ADSL Dynamic Plan (Level 2)
Work will be done later today to incorporate the Cisco 877 into the core network.
