Managing the Church's Half-time Crisis
Having a number of our members (in fact most of us) hovering around their mid-lives, I am pretty sure the reality of facing what many call a half-time crisis can be real and a daunting mindwash. Some of us perhaps are just over it, some in it, while others are about to enter it. Needless to say, prolong immersion in this state of mind can ultimately hurt our spiritual effectiveness for Christ as it has already done so in many christians.
For the record, "A mid-life crisis is an emotional state of doubt and anxiety in which a person becomes uncomfortable with the realization that life is halfway over. It commonly involves reflection on what the individual has done with his life up to that point, often with feelings that not enough was accomplished. The individual may feel boredom with their lives, jobs, or their partners, and may feel a strong desire to make changes in these areas. ..." (Wikipedia)
While surfing the world wide web (coz of HC's comment on not wanting to buy a fleet of yacht when asked), an interesting site caught my attention on this subject. And allow me to commend it to those burdened hearts who can truly see its value in helping many redirect their time, talent and treasure into something genuinely fulfilling and lasting for Christ, and perhaps turning it into a ministry in our church!
